Yoga for headache relief

Yoga can be a beneficial practice for alleviating headaches and promoting overall relaxation. Here are some effective yoga practices that may help with headaches:

  1. Child’s Pose (Balasana): Begin by kneeling on the floor, bringing your big toes together and knees slightly wider than hip-width apart. Lower your torso between your thighs and rest your forehead on the mat. Extend your arms forward or place them alongside your body. Breathe deeply and relax in this pose for a few minutes.
  2. Forward Fold (Uttanasana): Stand with your feet hip-width apart. Slowly bend forward from your hips, allowing your upper body to hang loosely. Let your head and neck relax. You can bend your knees slightly if needed. Hold this pose for a few breaths, feeling the release in your neck and shoulders.
  3. Seated Neck Rolls: Sit comfortably with your legs crossed or in a chair. Gently drop your right ear towards your right shoulder and roll your chin down towards your chest. Continue the movement, bringing your left ear towards your left shoulder and rolling your head back. Repeat this circular motion for a few rounds, then switch directions.
  4. Legs Up the Wall (Viparita Karani): Sit close to a wall and lie down on your back, extending your legs up along the wall. Rest your arms alongside your body, palms facing up. Allow your head and neck to relax. Close your eyes and breathe deeply, holding this pose for 5 to 10 minutes.
  5. Alternate Nostril Breathing (Nadi Shodhana): Sit comfortably and bring your right hand up towards your face. Use your right thumb to close your right nostril and inhale deeply through your left nostril. Close your left nostril with your right ring finger and exhale through your right nostril. Inhale through your right nostril, close it with your thumb, and exhale through your left nostril. Continue this alternate breathing pattern for several minutes, focusing on deep, slow breaths.
